PROJECT
PROTEUS.

O V E R V I E W

Through in-depth market research we aided Cegelec with their EU Research Project PROTEUS in creating an e-Maintenance platform and research the potential of integrating an ERP (Enterprise-Resource-Planning) System into its architecture. Utilising the Java Connectors we developed a web service that allowed external access to the local SAP system.

The research project PROTEUS was a collaborative initiative of German and French Universities, non-university research facilities, SMEs, as well as international operating business, with the aim of creating a generic e-maintenance platform. Through it’s generic structuring, the platform was created to support various industries, such as transport, energy or the process industries. The main goals of the research project were to optimise the process efficiency of internet maintenance, while creating a platform where an extended use of the XML standards would be supported, giving a definition of unified interfaces (API’s), and potentially most importantly, the sharing of research results. Acting as market consulters we were approached by Cegelec, to research what ERP systems would be best suited for such a large scale e-maintenance platform.

R E S U L T

Our in-depth market research on current ERP systems, it’s interfaces and the possibilities of the integration into the platforms’ architecture, also lead us to identify the various legal parts of ecommerce, as well as the European regulation of data-encryption specific for this project. Following our analysis, we developed a Java Connector as connection point for their internal SAP System, allowing for external accessing of the platform, and contributing to PROTEUS’ framework of systems, implementing for remote maintenance, as well as other applications for large and medium scale industrial installations.

Additionally we lead the investigation about the legal arrangements of e-commerce, as well as conducting the diverse encryption mechanisms for the European market. Connection points for the research project ARVIKA (Virtual Reality) were also carried out during this project.
